Sign-in with Ethereum: Web3's Native Identity Authentication ft. Wayne Chang, Founder of Blocktrend and SpruceID
EP.237
GM,
If you have ever withdrawn cryptocurrencies from an exchange and actively participated in Web3 applications such as DeFi, NFT, or posted articles, you must have come across buttons on websites like "Connect Wallet" or "Sign-in with Ethereum."
After clicking, your wallet usually pops up a window asking you to sign or log in, and then you can use the service. Crypto veterans are undoubtedly familiar with this process, but recently, many victims have fallen prey to phishing authorizations, leading to asset compromises.
In this episode, we invite the main contributor to the "Sign-in with Ethereum" mechanism, and also the founder of the Web3 startup company SpruceID, Wayne Chang, for an interview. Wayne is a globally recognized expert in Web3 identity authentication mechanisms. When Blocktrend first introduced Sign-in with Ethereum in 2022, almost all related content online was curated by Wayne.
Blocktrend is honored to have Wayne on the show for a discussion, and I've prepared many questions to ask him. Wayne grew up in the United States but has a Taiwanese father. Therefore, I will ask questions in Chinese, and Wayne will answer in English. You can also follow the transcript of this interview (in the transcript section below the title) while listening.
This episode includes:
What are the differences between Web2 and Web3 logins?
What is Sign-in with Ethereum? How does it address phishing attacks?
Benefits of decentralized identity and various application scenarios.
How to use abstract accounts and passphrase keys?
How can users and developers participate?
